About Michael

Michael Rovatsos has been a broadcast professional for over 25 years. He started in radio in 1991 as Morning Show Producer for The Bob Buchmann Morning Show on WBAB-FM in Long Island, NY. As fate would have it (ok, that's a stretch) Bob is now the afternoon man at The Bob and Coe Show (3-7pm) at the legendary KGB-FM (Classic Rock Station) here in San Diego. Michael was recently on the air with Bob and Coe at a recent remote- Here's the clip.

In early 2016 Michael completed his Master's Degree work in Strategic Communications at National University. The coursework and education has led Michael towards an expertise of Marketing, Communication and Crisis Communication planning. In 1995, Michael graduated with a BA degree in Broadcast Communications from SUNY Oswego, with a Magna Cum Laude distinction. While attending Oswego, Michael hosted his own college talk-radio program at WNYO and also served as Board Operator for the non-profit, public radio station, WRVO. Upon graduation, Michael entered the world of network television in New York City. In 1997, Michael became Research Manager at the flagship CBS affiliate, WCBS-TV. He then moved to the Disney-owned ABC Television Network in 2000, where he served as the Associate Director of Research for Daytime Television. In this role, Michael analyzed national demographic rating information to maximize the network's sales revenue in that daypart.

After moving to San Diego, Michael held a sales position at 10News-KGTV and conceived the program "Music Matters" for KSDS-FM. This program, which resulted from Michael's sales efforts in 2005, has continued with the efforts of KSDS-FM as well as with the help of CCMS (Community Council for Music in the Schools). It has garnered over 1000 instruments for children and the program continues today as a major part of KSDS' outreach in Music Education.

In 2006, Michael became Production Director and Web Manager of KSDS-FM. He continues to hold this position and is an integral part of the management team at the radio station. He leads the Public Relations department for the station, assists in Membership and is also the Web manager. Aside from administrative duties he also hosts an acoustic-blues program called Blues Before Sunrise. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 JazzWeek named KSDS-FM "Station of the Year."

As KSDS' Production Director, Michael has been awarded first place by the San Diego Press Club's Excellence in Journalism for six consecutive years (Radio Reviews- Pat Launer, Center Stage). As Web Manager, Michael conceived and created KSDS' first-ever interactive online content platform at Jazz88.org called "The Speakeasy." Since August of 2012 the platform has accumulated over 4,600 participants.

Michael also co-produced, edited and co-mastered two CD volumes of "Best of Jazz Live" for KSDS-FM. These CDs were used as fund-raising incentives during annual pledge drives.

Michael was honored to serve as a Music Director and Mentor for the San Diego teen homeless shelter, "Storefront." He conceived and produced the first-ever "Concert of Hope" CD for Photocharity, featuring the children's creative expressions in various styles of poetry and song, raising thousands of dollars for the shelter.

As a musical performer, composer and producer, Michael has over twenty years experience and several album credits to his name. Back in 2014, he performed, co-produced and co-wrote the album "Hand Made" by pop/rock group Mother Belle; which he co-founded. "Hand Made" was nominated for a San Diego Music Award in 2014 (Best Local Recording) and got a favorable SD Troubadour review. Most recently, he is playing bass with The Joshua Tree, one of the preeminent U2 tribute bands in Southern California. Here's some other demos (rough and produced) at Michael's Soundcloud account.

Michael is married to Jill Gorrie, a professional Dancer/Choreographer/Educator. They reside in La Mesa, California with their son and daughter.
